So I used to have a 14 inch silver arowana (raised it from 4 inches, escaped from tank and killed itself a few months ago) and fed it hikari gold cichlid pellets since day 1 and never had a problem with him taking it.

Just last week I got a new silver arowana at about 6 inches and ive been trying to feed him the pellets, but he just wont eat them. The owner of the LFS told me that he fed them pellets and occassionally crickets so I was wondering why he wouldn't eat the pellets. Well its been 4 days now and he hasn't eaten anything, so I was getting worried. Just now though I decided to throw a few flakes in there to see what would happen...and Freaking A he ate the flakes....so I guess that will be his diet for a while...lolz

Never in a million years would I think that this arowana would eat flakes...:hitting:

Now I'm relieved that my Arowana is eating, but at the same time I feel like crying for worrying so much, lol

Some aro tend to accept a change faster than the others. I will say you should persist on the pellet training.

i have an aro that was feeding on pellets for the previous owner (viewed feeding before purchase) and he did the same thing, i.e would not take the same brand pellet once i got him home, after about 10days of trying i gave in and gave him a meal worm....he took it angrily. from the next day he started taking pellets.

im not sure if its common behavior or it works in all cases, but it seemed the fish had to eat something yummy just to get him to have its appetite back. once again this was from just ONE experience with my aro and it might work.....try feeding ONE cricket.....then stop and try pellets the next day. may work may not but worth a try. just need him to get initial taste of food in new environment.

LOL...hope it makes sense, it does to me.

I got a small one that was on flakes (3 inches), and he took hikari gold pellets 15 minutes after he was in my tank.

Since he eats the flakes, break up pellets and add with the flakes. Gradually decrease the flakes and increase the pellets.
