Hey guys!

Working on setting up my new tank and just thought I'd show off what I did to my background. Sorry for the bad cell phone pics, will update when I get everything up and running, still have lots of work to do - and stuff to buy!! Tank is painted from the outside using regular Rustoleum spray paint. Let me know what you think!!

Thanks, from left to right, they stand for: Good Luck, Health/Strength, and Money/Wealth...

Well, it looks great. Take another pic when you have it completely set up running. What kind of denizens are going to occupy it?

Well, I'm gonna overstock (shame on me, I know!!) and throw in a silver arowana, 1-2 dats, a few clown loaches, synodontis cats, bichir(s), and a few others as I find neat fish. BTW, its a 100g, so I know they wont last forever in there...

That's awesome! I've always wanted to do that too, but I just ended up using tint for my background.

How did you do it? Just make a stencil for the writing and then overspray with black?

Well, it was a little time consuming but well worth it IMO. First, I taped off the whole back of the tank with some good masking tape (3M). I then drew out the outline of the characters I wanted ("mirror image" of the characters).

I then cut out the design with a razor blade and sprayed the red color. After letting it dry for a bit, I peeled off the masking tape, cleaned up the edges with a razor blade, and sprayed the whole back with black paint.

The end result is the red characters covered with the black paint and gives it a very glossy, uniform look. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Here's a quick update picture. Got my lighting and a few other accesories. Fluval FX5 is on the way
