what would be the best brand of canister filters fotr my 75g. i currently have 4 HOB filters and want to upgrade to only one.

i personally would go with something big, a power horse like an- Fx-5 or 2080 ehiem. but you could go smaller depending on stocklist, i wouldn't though.

Eheim 2217 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I agree with XR, this all depends on your stocklist and the bio-load.

If they are small and you dont have too many fish you should be fine with a Eheim 2217.

What 4 HOB's fit on a 75G ??? Is there room, is this possible? A normal 75G with center brace only fits 2 X Penguin 350 or 2 X AC110, even without the brace only 3 would fit.

I would pair up a large HOB (Emp.400 / Penguin 350 / AC110) with a larger cannister (Fluval 405 / Filstar XP3 / Eheim 2217)....

Burt :)

LOL.... an FX5 on a 75 gallon tank is more than just a LITTLE excessive. If you like watching the wheel on your power meter spin out of control then by all means...go ahead... but a single well set up 405 (or 2217 if you prefur) will do a great job. I'd leave the stock 405 foam mechanical frame as the only mechanical and fill all the rest of the baskets with ceramic rings or your favorite bio-media. This is especially true if you add in a good HOB unit as well. Because of the size restrictions and the fact you can run they with all foam blocks I recomend the AC 110 in this role.

Overfiltering definatly helps with overstocking but come on now... if you a 75 gallon that heavilly stocked then what you need is a LOT bigger tank and not a larger canister.

I'd go with an XP3, or maybe an XP4.

Eheims always seems to be the favorite. I can't afford one so I don't really know what it's like. I have a Fluval 404 in mine and it's been running for years. But you know what they say...bigger is better. Fx5 would definitely be a good one for that.
