.. or any water ager for that matter.

How do you dose?

Full tanks worth after siphoning but before adding water?
Full tanks worth after topping the tank up? (My current method)
Difference worth after siphoning but before adding water?
Difference worth after topping the tank up?

Just interested to know, I feel I'm using more prime than I have to.

I add the amount that would treat the entire tank volume just before I start to add the new water. This is the method that makes sense to me. The Prime is in there and can react with the chloramines as they come in with the new water.

If you add the new water first, and then dose with Prime, your fish have had to respire in that chloramine or chlorine tainted water for the duration of the new water addition. You want to break that down as soon as possible.

I add the Prime as I start to add the new water - minimum of treatment for full tank - sometimes a little more as it is hard to judge the right amount in those caps...so I usually add a little more to be safe.

Hello Ryan,

We recommend using Prime at the start-up of a tank and
whenever adding or replacing water. Whenever you are just
adding or replacing water, you should dose the correct
amount of Prime for just the new water you are putting
into your tank (not the whole volume of the tank). When
you dose the new water, make sure you do not continually
overdose with Prime; it is a reducing agent and when
overdosed, it can reduce the amount of oxygen in the
water. We recommend adding the Prime to the new water
before you put it into your tank, but if that is not
possible, you can add (the correct amount) directly to
your aquarium.

So full tanks dose isn't the way to go, but it still didn't answer my question of whether to add it before or after the new water is added using a hose. I'll be doing the difference amount after I add the new water.

I never use the cap to measure the dose breaks down to 1/4 TSP per 10 gallons

I dose after removing the water but before I add new water. I dose the full tank.

it says right on the bottle if you add water directly to the tank from the tap to dose for the full tanks volume. i have been putting the prime in right after i start filling for 3 years with zero problems.

Indeed it does which is what I've been using, but it seems that even their new answer I received via email is a little difficult to perfectly interpret.
