Since my 300 gallon glass has a crack and it is going to take a long time to repair, i decided to add 3 tanks to my shelf and line them into my current filtration on my 220 and double 80s.
Since my 220 and my double stack 80 setups have had pumps that were stronger then the tanks could drain, they always had a % of the return line running back to the wet/dry to prevent the tanks from overfilling. I decided to run those lines to the two 30 gallons and one 40 gallon on the shelf next to them. Since i was able to pick up 2 drilled 30 gallons from a LFS (Nolan's Aquarium) and a 40 gallon acrylic that i drilled out, it was easy to pipe them in.
The top 30 gallon drains into the wet/dry of my 220 gallon setup. I added a valve on the return to the 220 to adjust the amount of water going to the top 30 gallon which is pretty high up. The return of the 220 is on the outside of the tank because my aro cracked the return bulkhead, i took out the pipe and pluged the whole without any leaks.
The middle 30 gallon and bottom 40 gallon drain into the sump under my double stack 80 gallons. There is a vavle where the line splits near the pump to control the flow between the double 80's and other two tanks. There is also another valve on the return to the bottom 40 gallon to control the flow of water between the 30 and 40.
So far everything seems to be running smooth and filtering well so far. Ive moved fish around and plan to sell some fish and move some of them to the larger tanks they need.
220- Large silver aro, about 28". 18" Half red tail half shovel nose catfish. nice fish.
Top 80 gallon- Leichardti Aro
Bottom 80 - African tiger fish, marbled catfish, marbled goby, rapheal catfish
Top 30 gallon- African lungfish
Middle 30- Payara/saber tooth tertra, south american lungfish
Bottom 40- Marbled african lungfish
Alot of pictures below.
I have a 300 gallon that i need to replace the bottom panel of glass and a 180 acrylic i planning to move in next to replace all of these. Once i save enough money to build a new setup and another 2 more 180s to the tanks i have waiting, ill be able to move fish into larger tanks and more organized setup.
