Whats up you MFK'ers, I need to enlist in the help of those who have transported tanks and fish. I am moving 4 hours to SC to continue College in the fall, and I am having to break my tanks down.:( I've already decided on keeping my 90 and giving my 29 to my parents and selling my 55. I knew this time was coming soon, and the main reason I haven't bought any new fish. I am going to have to get rid of my africans and some of my CA/SA's as I just don't have room for them or a new tank yet where I am moving. One plus is I can finally have over a 125g tank as I will not have a landlord to complain about it. I need to know the best way to transport the following fish, and my 90 gallon tank, decor, and stand. I thought about getting a 30 gallon rubbermaid and a inverter for my truck so I can just plug in a normal heater and air stone and pump instead of worrying about those battery powered jobbies. Any suggestions to placement of the rubbermaid, fish, transport, or tank so nothing harms the occupants would be greatly appreciated. I am feeling overwhelmed with all this now I know how you guys with BIG tanks feel when they must be broken down and moved. BTW I am keeping my Jag, Salvini, Gold Severum, jurupari, and syno cat. My sd's, GT, Vieja, and pictus cat will be sold to good homes as well as my 5 africans.

I know it breaks my heart too as I've had all the fish in the 29 since I've been in the hobby thats why its going to my parents, and the 55 is going to a friend in the same apartment complex, he also has a 46 bow. Its just more practical to keep one tank then have to move ALL these guys, and I was getting a little burnt out too on all the upkeep, I never thought I would but I can understand now how some people have to downsize to keep interest.

ahhhh found someone who has the same prob
moving out again(2nd time from my parents place :D)
have to move too many tanks and too many fish to my new place 5 hour journey
and to top it all
my big tanks are in the 3rd floor of the house :swear:

the inverter and rubbermaid is the way to go.last year i moved my 300 of the third floor i rented a crane it was 200.00 well spent

This seems to be the bet way in my opinion too, but the rubbermaid and fish dont really worry me I think I can transport them fine, its moving the tank and stand and posistioning them so that they dont slide or break that has me worried, maybe a piece of styrofoam underneath the tank in the bed of my truck? Also I've heard ppl slowing their fish's metabolisms down so they dont poo everywhere and die of ammonia poisining. How does one go about this?

Good luck with your move. Get a lot of styrofoam containers, and maybe a battery powered air pump.

I was thinking of going with a battery powered pump but then I got the idea of taking an inverter I used to use in the back of my parents suburban to play ps2 on a 30" flat screen lol. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and has two plugs for standard appliances. I am planning on getting a small heater or using the one off of my 29 to heat the rubbermaid and use my small air pump and air stone to provide airation for them also. My parents are going to take the 55 as well as they like the africans better so I just have to part out my 29 now and will be doing that over the next several weeks. It is just kinda sad to have to take apart what I've worked so hard to put together.:(

I hear ya, but at least, you got everything all planned out, and you can visit the 29 when you come visit your parents.

When I moved to NOLA, I just put my 200 on my truck and 180 my parents put on theirs, as for livestock I put them into 46gal rubbermaid bins and filled them up halfway with tank water. I lined the tubs with black trashbags to keep fish calm, no bubbler because when I was driving the tension was aerating the tubs enough. At every stop we put in a bubbler though and it was a 6 hour drive.....all fish arrived safely.
