I've had three rainbows for a while and they will occasionally get nicked up from their play or if they get too close to a breeding pair of geos. Today there's a new and much more severe sore that I noticed and need some help IDing. I added melafix and pimafix for now till I can be more sure of what it is, but I'm leaving for the weekend so I want to be absolutely sure I have a plan in place... I'll likely quarantine him, but I'm concerned about it being contagious.

I just did a 70% WC to remove the prazi-pro that I added for a loach with chronic wasting... the suspicion is that that irritated another fish and really stressed him out (that thread is a few down the page). So water levels are all great, no nitrates, but the temperature is down to 82 from the 84 it was previous to the change (but this is deliberate - lowering temp gradually from the 86+ it was at for ich prevention a couple weeks ago). When it rains it pours.

It looks more like bacterial to me so I'm worried about it being contagious and wreaking havoc while I'm gone this weekend.

Here are pictures. It's popping out from him too, which has me worried about more serious problems.

I bought a couple of rainbows about 9 months ago. They would get spots (looks like maybe missing/discolored scales) like I see in your pictures. I had them in quarantine for 6 months, with melafix and pimafix. I finally put them back into the planted tank about 3 months ago. They still get the spots on and off but none of the other fish have gotton the spots including the new rainbows I just bought 2 months ago.
