Hello, am new here.

I have 6 hifin in my pond and it seems there are 2 distinct body shape, one is long and the head is not too broad, the other is short bodied and broad head. I was wondering if I have bought 2 different species. all have the high dorsal and long pectorial and pelvic fin

I bought them at 4 inches about 2 1/2 years ago. I am happy with the growth rate of the bigger ones, 36 inches, but disappointed with the short bodied ones, approx 24 inches.

Any pics?? Welcome to MFK! fishkeeping is addictive!

Pics would give you a definet answer however it's most likely that you have both what are commonly called a Parron and Irridescent Sharks ;)

Could be a short bodied paroon too ;)

True... thought about that too but figured not as likley ;)

Lot more likely in a Asian country than here, know they are into this kind of stuff. (man made crap to me :irked:)

True, didn't even look at the location, Mind you even if it were short bodied it would have the same head which apparently there is a difference as per the original post :D

Head will more than likely look smaller compared to the deformed swollen body of a short bod paroon. but in original post the mention of long fins of pectorals and pelvic's and high dorsal is very distinct in paroons, so wouldn't of thought of any other sp it would of been :D but pix of these fish would be good, especially as they are of such a impressive size, and if you do have a short bod this size (24") it should be posted on monster fish keepers :)

your from the phil. right? i doubt that they gave you a sanitwongsei as to even kartimar dont carry them. most FS here sells iridescent shark which most call it here hammer head and this forum ID sharks(this one as you describe long and not broad headed) and the other one is the paroon shark. AKA hi fin hammer head (i almost slap the FS's owner when i asked him if its a paroon shark and told me NO, its a hi fin hammer head.) this one as you describe short body and broad headed. BUT i maybe wrong pic will always be a good way to ID your beloved fish
