I have a 200G tank, 7x2x2feet.
I had an Silver arowana which was supposed to be the "main" fish but it died.
I am looking for another "main" fish or fishes and my gf insists that i go with CA/SA cichlids.
So now i find the tank pretty empty and am thinking of getting 1 or more amerian cichlids in the tank, something colorful, beautiful and active...
The only american cichlids i have are a small Jaguar pair in another tank so im pretty new to this.
I only have two in mind at the moment, a Jaguar male and/or a Jack Dempsey male. I have had oscars and i dont really like them though.

The fish in the 200G are:
1x Hydrocynus Vittatus ~7"
1x Paroon shark / Pangasius sanitwongsei ~10"
1x Clown Knife / Chitala chitala ~14"
1x Black Ghost Knife / Apteronotus albifrons ~10"
2x Lima Shovelnose / Sorubim Lima ~10"
2x Polypterus Palmas palmas ~10"
3x Polypterus Palmas polli ~10"
2x Polypterus Senegalus ~8"
2x Polypterus Ornatipinnis 8-10"
3x Ropefish / Erpetoichthys calabaricus ~12"
1x Angelfish
3x Plecos

The Paroon will be rehoused when its a little bigger but other than that i want to find some cichlid that will fit in with the other fish, the Angelfish can go if needed :)
Cichlid pairs are out of the question i think.

So bring in some ideas of beautiful cichlids that will not kill or eat the others ;)

A pic of the tank (one of the light units broke, waiting for a new one, thats why there is only light in the middle):

You should try Paratheraps bifasciatus, or Vieja argentea they are both beautiful, you could also add a EBJD they are also very beautiful.

I go with an SA.
Green Parrot Hoplarchus psittacus
Severum Heros efasciatus
Choclolate Hypselecara temporalis

Maybe a pike of the Crenicichla sp.

even though you don't like oscars I would still reccomend them maybe a veiltail oscar because it will be beautiful and have alot of personality

i say no to oscars. you probably want to take out the angel as it probably would not hang too well with any semi aggressive cichlids you might put in there.
true parrots would be nice.
red shoulder severum are worth considering
heckel geophagus (forgot what the scientific name was) might be good
a small school of satanoperca or geophagus ~3 or 4
chocolate cichlid might work as well

you may want to thin out some of your collection to be honest. the clown knife is quite large as it is. the paroon cat, the lima cat are all gonna be big...

one of the large viejas for sure 16" of pure beauty

some nice geo's, like tapajoes would look awesome, maybe some rotkeil sevs, both of these would go great in the tank IMO and would add some good colour too! i dont think that aggressive cichlids would go very well with the current inhabitants of the tank.

I wouldn't go with oscars or anything too big and mean, they will demolish that beautiful tank. I would be wary of severums for their tendency to munch on plants. Geos sound like the best idea to me so far.

uaru. great fish. very calm and gentle and their colours are beautiful. photos dont do them justice.
