Hey guys. I am new to having a arowana and i know that you will scold me for my tank size. I plan on getting a 300 g asap. But for now i have a 55g tank with only one fish

So you can see his fins are messed up, they have been since a week after i got him back in feb. I feed him cichlid large pellets hikari gold about 7 per day.

any suggestions?

He swims fine, and is very active.. i am going to now do water changes twice a week if not three times. 50% was what was advised at aqua central

Have you tried melafix, salt, or anything? Have you checked for stray current in the tank? It looks like he's stressed as hell. There has to be something causing it.

That is the worst looking finage on an Aro I've ever seen! o_o Oh man, you gotta do something about that!

Yeah, use salt, melafix and turn up the heat. Try feeding him every other day too.

Btw, is he in there by himself? I hope he is.

Yes he is in there by himself. The camera inside the tank stresses him out a little, he is camera shy.

I have salt i put in. I have a bottle of melafix, i need to remove the carbon right? and for how long?

85 degrees seems excessive you sure that will be alright?

I have a feeling that it came with something because it was within the first week of owning it that the fins did that.

Him being in the 55g as for now is not all that bad. Just do some WC and do what everyone else do...add salt. :D
I would recommand getting a bigger tank and setting it up soon.
But he should be fine.

Carbon is only there to basically make your tank look clean. I recently took my carbon out 2 weeks ago - out of a tank that has been running for 4 months now - and there's no difference at all. Just take it out and keep it out, replace the empty space with more biomax or whatever you use.

85 is fine, I wouldn't go over 85 though just to stay safe.

It could've been that it came with something or it could've very well been your tank. What do you feed it? And how often? What kind of filtration do you have?
