I'd like to try my first planted tank. I have a perfecto 20g with an 18 inch fixture. I bought a 15 watt, 675 lumen, 9322K light for the tank. The light says "will support plant growth in any tank less than 24 inches tall". The light was only $5 so I decided to try it. I know that .75 watts per g is really low, but what would be good beginner plants for such low light conditions? Another question, are cories fine for a planted tank? Finally, are any additives or CO2 necessary for this tank?

Ferts won't hurt, neither would a co2 source. Low light plants include: anubias, java ferns, mosses, hornwort, egeria species, vals, amazon swords, and najas grass. Cories will be fine.

I have some of the things WyldFya mentioned in my 20 gallon tank with similar lighting and they seem to do well.

Another one that grows well is Anacharis http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=768+780&pcatid=780

I got a huge clump of it for $3 at my LFS and it grows like crazy, anchors itself down or can live free floating, and seems to process alot of nitrogen.
Anacharis is an invalid name, elodea is as well, both are sometimes used as common names for Egeria densa, or Egeria najas.
