Cleveland, Oh.
Hello, I'm interested in purchasing a vieja argentea but before I do can someone tell me some information on them diet, h2o parameters, also tankmates. ie other cichlids. thank you everyone

Regular cichlid diet such as pellets etc...They do well in my experience with most other cichlids that are not of the vieja family. My 10 inch male is peaceful but holds his own if challenged.

My male could only be kept alone after about 6", he had a 12" dovii, and 12" managuense backed into cornes after killing 3 other argentea overnight, in a 150 gal tank. They are all individuals, but must be constantly watched.

make sure they get some greens in their diet in addition to what you feed everyone else.

They are partly detrivors.....They like hard water. They are super aggressive. Here is mine.

Lookin' good bigspizz! Is that a male for female? It's kinda hard to tell from those pics.

My Argentea is the king of my 125. He doesn't beat on any of the other fish, but they know not to mess with him, so the mix is working pretty well. See my signature for his tankmates.

Here is a somewhat recent pic of him:

Mine's at the bottom of the pecking order in my 210. Just depends on the fish.

Any photos of the dorsal/anal fins on yours Rico? Mine has decent anal fin extensions but the dorsal extensions have gotten chewed off so I'm not sure on the sex of mine. The small one is too young yet...

As for care, general cichlid care. Can use some veggies in the diet but definitely not necessary. Big, hardy, and beautiful. What more could you ask for?

I think I have a boy....Lets see who can get the best vent shot...:) I will try for another...It looks like a male vent to me.

Venting from photos is just guessing for me. If I'm going to vent anything I need it in hand. And even then it helps to have multiple of the specie to compare with...

I still want to see the dorsal and anal fins of yours!
