Oahu Grown!
I recently picked up 2 cichla ocellaris they are about 2-3" and also a cichla temensis about 3-4" and I was just wondering about how long will it take till they start showing some color and how long till the get a good amount of color, and is there anything I can do to help them produce some nice colors? such as foods or anything? Thanks everyone

it varies
my cichla started showing their color at 4", but others have their cichla begin to show their colors later at like 6"

i know that it varies in time but on average how much time till they will reach 4" and 6"?

What are you feeding them?

you have to feed them a varied diet of shrimp and pellets(hikari bio gold would do good) feeders here and there.. and be patient they will bloom when necissary. are you 100% sure you got those species? the tems should produce some sweet yellow lines if there tems and the ocell will bloom once they get bigenough. The usuall size for colors is 5-6in i have heard some people have had there bass showing some nice hues even at smaller sizes. But agian it all depends on the food and there size and species.

im feeding them black worms, dried shrimp, and guppies, about how long would it take for them to reach 5-6"?

My ocellaris started getting nice color at 6". Just be patient and keep them well fed. They will grow very fast in good conditions.
