Almost three week to the day the F0 Managuense pair that I had spawned. Last night they spawned again. I shot some additional video of the pre-spawning ritual that I will post later. In the meantime here are some stills. Just before they get ready to spawn the female gets extremely aggressive cleaning the breeding area and taking pot shots at the male. The male, for the most part, responds in kind but is ultimately more interested in me and the camera. I took this first shot and rally lucked out with the female's pose...catching her with the extended mouth.
I took maybe twenty shots of her over the breeding area...here's a nice overall shot of the female...
...and another with the male...her ovipositor plainly visible...
...and a nice shot of the male with the female below...
I noticed that whenever the male started doing his "glass banging" thing with me, the female would get aggressive...toward him. INTERESTING. So what I did was lure the male over to the glass near the spawning area..he'd bang the glass...and she would smack him. I was able to repeat the first photo (more or less).
And finally...here she is...ONCE AGAIN...sitting over the spawning area with her eggs. I was going to crop the photo, but really like the way the anal fin of the male looked on the upper right hand of the photo. Love that blue.
Look for the video coming up soon. I shot it in high definition. Most of the video is shot at 25-30 FPS (frames per second). I shot this at twice that speed in wide screen format. I'm somewhat limited by the 100meg limitation of YouTube...so it will be interesting to see how it looks coming over the net.
