State of chaos
I read in an Audobon field guide that there have been unconfirmed attacks by Gator Gars on humans altho I think it was either a Gator Alligator or a Bull Shark. What do u guys think?

bottomfeeder-there is a show on A&E called MonsterQuest one is about Freshwater Fish and there is a segment that talks about gators gars and how fishermen have been bit or hit by the tail. They show reruns all the time so maybe you will catch it-since the almighty says that Audobon field guide sucks-you might want to try to catch that show.

I guess gars are capable to take a human down... They even can take a real gator... I watched the MonsterQuest based on Freshwater Fish.. n i kinda agree that gator gars have taken human down... Check this pic below out... Dont u think that a small size guy can fit into his mouth

no seriously. the gar only looks that big because of camera angle. and animals really don't come at us looking for a fight. that kind of thinking was introduced by hollywood movies like jaws and other crocodile movies. gars are no different. they'd much rather get away from us as quickly as possible. the fish in the picture is say, a wild overestimate, 10ft. it's snout width would be at most a foot wide. let me know when you find someone that small.

Agreed that the photo with an elderly person is a camera trick (still the fish is huge!!!). In any case, check these out.

I am sure it can bite a person thinking that it is food.... and after seeing my pet 2+ feet gar munch down similar sized food - it is not a very big leap of imagination that it could (at least theoretially) stuff down a kid (or even an adult) if it really wanted.
PS: i always amaze my friend when i put my arm into pond/aquarium to clean the glass ... gars is never too far away hehehehe

but i doubt they ever would without a reason.
