syphon flowing to filter?

anyone have any experience with setting up a filter that waterfalls back into a pond/tank that is fed by a syphon set up? i currently have a wayne sump pump 1/4hp with a 20' 1 1/4" hose feeding to my 35gallon rubbermaid tub filter with 2 2" pvc pipes coming out waterfalling back into the pond.


my plan is to run the hose straight up to the ceiling from the pump, 7 feet, and then run the other 13 feet downhill to the filter. i would use the pump to start the flow then shut it off and let the syphon action do its job. i got this idea when i was pumping water out of my 500 gal stock tank outside in through the window to the pond in the basement and when i shut the pump off it continued to flow. well i guess wish me luck and if anyone has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate them.

perpetual motion would be with no outside forces working to move things continuing to move but im using gravity as a force to pull the water on the longer heavier side down in turn pulling the water on the short side up.

my theory might be flawed but its worth a try.

googled perpetual motion and damn that sucks, i tried. leave it to some brilliant scientists to prove me wrong.
