My friend won a Goldfish at the school fair. To my horror I saw that it was a Sarasa Comet. So I emailed him. I was a little strong but its a real gem to find a healthy, baeutiful fish like he found at a fair. What do you guys think?
"Hey Peter, it's me AJ. I know a little something about fish so I'm gonna help you out.
I figure that if you're gonna keep the Goldfish, you gotta do it right.
First of all, don't start a tank. Do not put any fish in a tank that has not been filtered for a few days. If it's not an option then get gravel from an established tank and put a few rocks in.
Below is a small Comet Goldfish. note that yours will grow to this size. He'll reach a foot and a half long and uses a suggested tank size of 180 gallons. With a filter this will total only about $90. They can live with other Goldfish but adding more than 2 to a 180 gallon will require a bigger tank. They are relativly active and need a high quality filter to cope with all the crap Goldfish produce which will eventually poison the water. Feed once every other day. If you cannot comply with the Fish's needs than I strongly suggest giving him for free to a pet store. Here's what happens when a fish is in a tank too small: The outside of the fish stops growing. But not the insides. The organs and bones push against one another. The Goldfish's bones break, organs are flattened and may even start to push thru the skin. The Goldfish then begins slowly dying.
I hope I helped and hope to not sound too strong but I really was amazed at the fine SC you brought home.
