Noob with new 180g - what to stock?

Hiya,

I'm picking up a 6x2x2 aquarium this weekend. I've only kept a tropical community before with angelfish sp.scalare as the only cichlid I have previously kept.

I'm wanting to do a medium size american cichlid tank. I'm tossing up weather to go with Gold Saum's as the feature fish or orangehead tapajos geos.

Suggestions for stocking rates and possible tankmates for either option would be greatly appreciated.

Filtration is going to be an eheim 2217 and an eheim 2228. I also have an ac110 kicking around that might go on full of floss pending how it fits with the hood.

Personally, I like one big monster fish in my tanks... The term "monster" is proportional, I doubt anybody here would say a Grammode isn't a monster fish packed in a medium-small body.

That being said. Id say look into a Dovii.. Big beastly, beautiful, Interactive fish.
 
Jardini and test out a pack of clown loaches.
Or a dozen dats with some bichirs and fei fengs
 
a jardini would make lunch out of clown loaches. but anyways just browse through the cichlid forum and look at different peoples fish and find info on them then go with whatever your gut tells ya.
 
I'd have to agree with the theory of one big show fish but getting off the subject, what formula did you use to calculate tank volume? My oscar tank is 72"x18"x20" and is only 96 gallons (360L) as far as i worked it out..
 
Disregard the last post mate just found the painfully obvious Conversions section.. :grinno:

6x2x2 is the standard US. 180g. 6" wider and 4" taller really make that big of a difference.

Not to mention, a 72x18x20" tank = 112g So you're off.
 
Go parachromis or go home. Seriously though,, a pair of freddies would be groovy,, or motags,, or dovii,, or jags,, or losellei
