I've made a double decker cabinet for two 30gl tanks that I'm going to use as grow out tanks for my Severum babies. It's done and ready for paint but I figured I'd see what you all think about spicing it up. Should I leave it basic or should I put some fish or something on it like I did for my fish bench? Granted it looks quite nice now with basic having nice moldings etc. I'm kind of stuck on this decision. Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Here is a link to my fish bench project so you'll know what I'm talking about.

Stain it...dark cherry red. and line the bottom with bamboo.

That would not match a thing in our house. I'm going to paint it a cream color.

:yuck: Go with a clear veneer. Paint defeats the purpose of getting wood with a nice grain.

I'd do something with the access doors to the tanks- that's the only part of it that looks drab.

I usually think its ugly when people paint their MFK creations, but your last project turned out great with the airbrush. I think it will look good either way, but I'm a HUGE sucker for stain.. Stain it any color.. mmmmmmmmmm

The only problem I see with that is, the access doors & main frame are all pine and the sides & cabinet doors are birch. Wouldn't that look off? They would both take stain differently and would not only have different grains but also different shades.

The access doors do have a routed bead around them, the same as the moldings. It's just hard to see in the pics.

This thing is coming out NICE!!! I can't wait to get it up & running. I have one more coat to put on the main frame. Doors, flaps, & side panels are done. I'll have it together this weekend but I'm going to let the paint cure for a while before I put the tanks in.

I'm going to mount some blue LED's inside next to the tanks for night viewing. I can't wait. :grinno:

I like it the way it is, and from what I can see in the pix, looks alright in the house. Get some recessed locking hinges that can be mounted on the inside and will hold the doors open for you, that would look mint.
