My fire eel (about 12-13'') seems to have relocated his home into one of my Whisper HOB filters. He only comes out to eat. I know that this has happened to other people, but is it bad? The water in there must be terrible, should I test it? I don't want him getting torn up or severly stunted or anything :( If I cover it any more, the water won't be able to flow out of the filter back into the tank. What should I do?

The water in there is about the same quality as whats in you normal tank.

Thats crazy... atleast he didnt commit suicide like my freshwater moray did.

Yeah, that happened to my 6'' tiretrack a while back :( I have my tank covered a lot better now.

Anybody else? Should I just let him be? I'm worried :nilly:

Get him back in the tank. Eventually it will figure out how to get the lid off the filter and then you will find it on the floor. I took a glass cleaning sponge and put in the filter where the water comes out to block access without restricting water flow.

Thanks for the advice.

I was thinking about putting some small fencing or something where he gets in so that the water could get out, but he can't get in.

Putr him back in the tank and then cover the area where the water flows back into the tank use some sort of mesh you can get metal mesh at home Depot
