I've got this brush algae taking over my tank. its on my drift wood, walls, gravel and plants. i've cleaned it several times. how do i get rid of it for good. and would a algae turf scrubber help?

well at one point i had alot more plants in the tank. i took out the water sprites that were growing faster than anything. i would throw bucket-fulls away at a time. now, i was trying to change up the scenery and thats when the algae took over.

i've built an algae turf scrubber out of spare items and thought that would help keep it at bay, but i dont know enough about it. just wondering if that would help

As long as your scrubber is growing faster than the algae in the tank, which it should if it gets enough light and smooth laminar flow across it.

When you were tossing away the water sprite overgrowth you were essentially removing the nutrients that the algae needed to thrive. Now that you have stopped growing the plants, the nutrients are building up gving the algae what it needs to run away in your tank.

I use a seperate planted tank run in parallel with my fish system to reduce nutrients. It prevents algae from growing in my fish tanks and reduces the amount of water changes as well.

I logged in just to say that that is the worst case of BBA I have ever seen anywhere on the Internet

Throw everything away and start all over again, there is no saving those plants lol

I have to agree...that is a bad case. I would start over too.

In a way though, it looks kind of cool on the plant. But not good looking at all on the walls, wood, and substrate.

Don't throw the stuff away, a heavy dose or excel, or a bleach solution dip will get rid of all of the bba.

I noticed some growing in my tank today, you could throw in a large amount of amano shrimp but I'm sure if the discus will eat them or not.
