I have a clown knifefish that is a bottomless pit. Currently we are having to go to the pet store to get feeders just about everyday. I have gotten him to the stage that he will eat out of my hand but it must be alive and moving for him to have genuine interest. We tried feeding him the frozen krill, at first he chews it up but then just spits it back out. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as keeping a constant living food supply or anything maybe I am missing. This fish is the center of my aquarium and he is my pride...I would just like to know the best way of keeping a viable source of food for my beloved swimming stomach! (ps we have also tried to keep an aquarium of feeders but the water turns because of the amount we have to keep)

How long have you had it? How big is it? I find CKs are kind of easy to train to get off live food. Just takes a bit of starving.

yea wasnt hard to switch mine with some devoted time/ though i do have a pond for feeders too. u should lookinto gettin a big breeder tank and get a pair that mates often
(dont have to use comets and guppies only as feeders) really shiny fish are good for your predators imo.

train that thing to take market shrimp, krill, fish filets..........much cheaper and safer(unless you are breeding your own feeders)

I bet you know your local petstore peeps pretty well if your going there almost ever flipping day i think feeders are just to show them off to company.

But dude serouisly you can feed them anything I handfeed my knifes normal dry cat food they inhale it i keep it in a large tuperware and if i get near it they go crazy its funny man i ll give the cantainer a shakeroo before i toss food in there and the water boils heh

I also have a clown knife that is a bottomless pit,and what i did to remedy my pocket was i had a 55 gallon i was not using so i set it up with a normal filter and also carbon corner filters and 1 bio filter, this over filtration will keep the water from being cloudy and all of your feeders will be happy and healthy. I put about 500 in mine at one time and go untill i run out,i feed my clown knife creek minnows, emerald shiners, daces, and chubs whatever i can catch at my local creek, they are free if you want to put forth the effort to go catch them.Find a creek somewhere in a rural area get a water sample have it have it tested, buy a minnow sane and a nice minnow bucket you will make the money back the first time you get 2 or 300 minnows and your fish dosnt run out of food for a couple weeks.Make sure you inspect every minnow for parasites before feeding i have been feeding my clown knife and aruwana for over a year with nearly 120 minnows a week and never had a problem with disease or anything they love them

^ indeed good water streams is fine for grabin free feed. hawaii is deals for that . i jus grab a batch every season to add to the breed stock in the pond..

buy in bulk pellets if your afraid to feed live.
