I will be getting three small Doviis on Tuesday. They will be in my 30 gallon for two weeks or when I figure out which one is the dominant male of the three. I wish to compose this thread in order to chronicle the growth and behavior of my male Dovii. Ultimately he will be a solo fish in a 240 gallon tank. Pics should come in on Friday. This thread is meant to give personal accounts of what works and what doesn't. Looking forward to posting my first pics on Friday! :)

my male is a foot long and a little 8 months old, get ready to buy your 240 pretty quick

Thanks for the advice. I already have a 240 gallon. I just need to put my Clown Knife, Red Oscar, Ornate Polypterus, and Ocellaris Bass in my 1032 gallon pond. Right now the water is cycled (has been up and running for god nows how long) I have two Emperor 400s and two Magnum 350s. Plus I have two 500 Watt heaters and tons of rock work.

Sounds good :D

Pics are a must. If I were you I'd grow all 3 out till they were 6-7" so you could see aggression as well as colors. Unless your just going for the most aggressive.

i agree. grow all 3 out. cause one of those 3, one might be more colorful than the other. then you can get a female and breed them. dont worry about agression. the is second nature to a dovii.

Mudfrog-I am really considering doing that and probably will. This is a good time for me, since I am a teacher we have two weeks off and I have a lot of time to move the other fish and let my three Dovii grow out in the 240. Is there a possibility I could form a breeding pair from these three? I'll have pics on Friday maybe before that.

Danny-Good call I will do that. Which means in a little while I need to get off my lazy behind and move the others to the pond. LOL!

Nice to finally hear yu getting yurself a Dovii or a few! Lol Post pics once yu get them and do single shot pics of each individual

that dovii should be in the 240 within a year lol.
my dovii is about 8" and only 5 or 6 months old.
got him back in june or july at a very small sizes with 3 other dovii.
this one managed to kill them all though, i feel kinda bad they all died.

You could definitely get a breeding pair, or the male could hate everything. Someone on another board has a pair of Dovii that just spawned at 3.5"

Me on the other hand, my male has killed 3 females, I'm attempting a 4th as we speak but it's not looking good :(
