Hello, I wrote to TFH magazine about the Tilapia buttikoferi and actually received a reply (MAY 2006) but I still am having trouble finding any real information about these guys. Anyone keep them besides me? I know that someone in this forum has some good info on em'. Or if anyone has any good websites on them I would definately be interested. Thank you!

what do you want to know?

Geo. Origin: Coastal rivers from Guinea-Bissau to West Liberia

Habitat: Deep Rocky Habitat

Diet: Omnivore

Breeding: Substrate Spawner

Temperament: Highly Aggressive

Maximum Size: 12"

Temperature: 73-77°F

pH: 6.5 - 7.0

Water Hardness: Hard

ooh and the only thing they do is fight with other fish and eat, thats it

if you want more info just ask

I got a 14" one, what do you want to know about them?

There is a pretty cool video of him going crazy attacking PVC piping in the video gallery.

I had one a while ago with some other big fish - The pike was over 12" and the butterkuffi was about 16" and thick....monster fish in width, height and thickness

the down side was he was a tank killer - along with my red tail catfish.....
eventually it was just those two psychopaths in the tank. I had to save what I could and start other tanks. The most aggresive fish I ever had - not including Piranhas. They are all like that if they make it to maturity (had a few of them)
