Hi,

I am pretty sure this started from a fight this fish got into. Problem is, since this fish hides alot I wasnt aware that it had some injuries. Fortunately, I noticed it tonight, and I removed the fish immediately to a hospital tank. I added Maracyn already. Can anyone let me know if I am dealing with a bacterial infection, or just a bad wound, or something else? The wound is at one of the pelvic fins, white and red areas and looks a little fuzzy too. Also, the fin looks like it is barely hanging on, like it might fall off.

Water parameters in the tank was:

Temp: 79
Ammonia: 0
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte: 20
Hardness: Hard
PH: Around 7.8

Now it is in a hospital tank though. Heres some pics, sorry for the quality.

That's really bad! I'd do daily water changes until the fish recovers completely. It shouldn't be too tedious considering it is a hospital tank. 25-30% will do the trick and if the fish does not eat the food, smear it with garlic to coax it to eat.

Ive been dosing Maracyn. Its day 2 now, still looks the same kinda. I know this is gonna probably take 2-3 weeks for full recover. I have the fish in a 10 gallon with a sponge filter, heater and some plastic plants. I tried to drop 2 pellets tonight, but the fish didnt bother so I took them out. You think I should dose Maracyn-2 also?

Also, what kinda garlic do you recommend?

Kent has liquid garlic. Add 3 drops only to it. For possible bacterial infection, Maracyn 2 is fine for use.

So Marcyn and Maracyn 2 is fine to use together right?
Yes.

Cool, thanks. I am gonna get some Kent liquid garlic. It says marine on the label but I read its for use with FW fish too. Cheapest I found online is about $14.99 for 1 oz.
