Man, a LFS near me lost some fish the other day from a overnight blackout? he said when the 2002 blackout hit he said he lost tens of thousand of dollars..so I didnt have a setup then I want to know about you guys out there that dealt with that crisis?? maybe it would help in case of another blackout???

I was without power last year for 7 days from the wind storm in Ohio. I had no choice but to go and buy a generator. It's worth the 300 bucks for it. It saved me a ton of fish and the food in my fridge. I honestly would not live without one ever again.

wow..thats cool...out here in NYC you really cant have one because everything is really vertical.....unless you live in the suburbs..

I live in NH and we had a 10 day power outage this past december from a horrific ice storm. We lost power at midnight. Without power, we had no heat, no running water, and no electricity. I have 10 tanks and over 300 fish that needed to be heated and filtered. Fortunately, all our tanks are in the same room. I woke up first thing in the morning and went to home depot to get a generator. They were sold out of course and so were all the other stores in all of New England. So I bought a large kerosene heater. When I got back, I had lost 3 fish already. I used an DC/AC converter in my truck plugged to the cig. lighter. Ran an extension cord into the house. Put a power strip on it and was able to get one filter from each of my big tanks and the air compressor that runs my fry growouts. I cranked the kerosene heater to 80 degrees and sealed off the room with plastic on windows and blocked all entrances and exits. My family (wife and 3 kids) and I spent 10 days in this room with one lamp, a radio, and a laptop. Mind you, there is also 3 ft. of snow on the grownd outside the whole time too. It was miserable but in the end, we all survived. Not one more fish died. What also sucked was that either my wife or I had to be at the house at all times to run the adapter and to make sure the kerosene didn't catch fire.

That wind storm crap was just dumb. Tornados and everything else has came by and when a 60mph wind lasts a day were out for 7 days. Glad all of your fish lived. Generators are life savers in these situations.
