Well after a few drinks last night, I guess I decided to make a new light for my 30 gallon salt tank. And I took pics too, go figure.. I was sitting at my computer just now and was thinking, "Oh god, what the hell did I do last night?" And remembered, "Oh Yeah!, I made a light!?" lol
I managed to get my hands on some free swag a couple days ago.
The two light strips were junk, headed for the trash. So i took them home. Figured I could do something with them, at least keep the bulbs (if they worked).
Here are the two busted light strips. A mix of bad ballast, bulbs, cords cut off, big mess. I ended up using the one on the left. The right one was too far gone. I kept one of the bulbs from the right one and trashed it.

And here is a quad 50/50 96w and a double ballast I managed to scoop up for free as well.

So I got to thinking last night, why not make a new light for my salt?...
It had just your average 15w aquarium fluorescent tube and had been due for an upgrade.
Here she is before. 30 gallon Oceanic cubed.

And the inadequate lighting.

So I set down my beer and got to cutting. lol

Had to take off a reflector holder from the junk end and put it on the good end.

Cut the reflector.

Put some new holes in for the newly places reflector holder.

Bada Bing

Bada Boom..

Also had to cut off the middle light bulb holders to make it fit.
Took the end piece off the junk end and put it on.

Had to cut the acrylic shield to fit.

And there ya go. New light.
