I see a lot of people feeding their fish until they almost pop, sometimes overfeeding is called "power feeding"
Does doing that hurt more than it helps? Please vote and explain your stance.

I keep feeding my Barramundi till they get a pot gut, I think it'd help, but I'm not sure, so I'll be interested to see what others think, 8) Thanks for asking this question.

Thanks Rallysman for making this poll. I would like to know the out come.

If they're "stuffed" every time they are fed, i would have to say its detrimental.

I personally don't like powerfeeding as it will most likely lead to a less healthy, fat fish.

But every once in a while, combined with a few days of fasting, a powerfeeding surely can't hurt. I'd think that would be more natural for most fish.

Since it really depends on how often you overfeed and how often you fast, i voted for the unicorns. ;)

How does stretching the stomach to nearly twice it's size (or more) play into it? Where do the other internal organs go? How do they function when there is a lack of space?

It's instinctive to eat as much as you can IMO. Even humans go way overboard more than they should. It's too easy for us to get food so we keep eating. It's been proven that it's bad for us, so why is it different for fish?

I'm taking no sides and I will not vote. I'd like to see a well rounded discussion in favor of both sides.

I think I'm so worried that every fish gets its fair share that I often end up overfeeding. I feed more than I should to make sure they all get some, and sometimes that means they all get too much lol! Bulging bellies are the norm for me I'm afraid. I really should stop that, but I'm a pushover.

I spose fish have different internal organs to us.

I dont think overfeeding would hurt a growing fish which would be able to utilise the extra nutrients into growing and muscle fibre. Once it gets to a stable size, then I reckon it would develop fat due to overfeeding.

That's why i say that every once in a while it could be more natural. Especially for catfish and other scavengers species.

I would think that in nature they wouldn't constantly be fed relatively small portions. But every once in a while they may stumble across a relatively large carcass which that will stuff themselves on until they've eaten as much as they can.

However day after day huge feedings, regardless of whether the fish is being "powerfed" can't be good. Except for maybe fry. Right?

Haha, but this is just my opinion, hopefully some of the more learned members will chime in.

I agree with this statement. I do power feed every other day. Power feed one day and smaller portions the next day.
