"The solution is very simple; outlaw all snakes. Snakes are useless and they serve no purpose. They are ugly and they smell funny so let's get rid of them. Make it illegal to own a snake. Make it law to require an individual to kill a snake if they encounter one. This way an innocent child will never have to die like this again. The US needs to set an example for the world. If we do I think one day we can eliminate snakes from planet Earth."

sometimes i just want to slap people...

I hate reading these types of things because it all comes down to that man's irresponsibility, and then people become "outraged" and want to "kill all snakes" which is so absurd because the vast majority of snakes are so harmless. It's people like him that are ruining this hobby for people like me. I know just how strong these animals can be but it is not hard to build an enclosure that they cannot escape from. Besides, their true power comes when they coil around something and squeeze with many coils. That ability is not that much of a help when trying to escape a "box" shaped enclosure, especially when that "box" is big enough. As far as HR 669 is concerned, why ban all species when only a handful are dangerous to people? If owners were required to get expensive licences to own the larger species every year then it would eliminate a lot of these people who are irresponsible because it would only be worth it for the people who want to make the investment to keep these animals.

Require breeding permits for people would solve the problem just as effectively. If you are too stupid to know that mixing a toddler with a 12 foot animal without a properly designed enclosure is a bad idea there isn't much anyone can do. Laws won't work and permits are only useful to responsible reptile keepers. The black market would be chock full of these animals and street vendors ethnic neighborhoods would be selling them.

Not all that disimilar from gun permits (criminals get them without permits) except that 2 guns will not over time produce an arsenal. Dont' punish the parctice punish the idiot involved. In this case sounds like the natural consequences were sufficent.

As far as the idot post from the site. Look if trolls offend you that much maybe a thicker skin is waranted.

100% agreed. Ive read on that news, beleave it was "10 people killed by pet pythons since 1980" in my opinion one of the most irrelevant death statistics, how many were in the same time killed by road travic acidents, their own family, sports, dogs, horses, etc.:grinno: If they want to outlaw pythons then they should as well outlaw stuff like cars, tobaco, gardening, fast food etc all of wich are a much bigger "danger" to all of us. Have you wandered how many people fast food and tobaco have so far killed? Or how many people are killed BY PEOPLE EVERY SINGLE DAY, HOUR,MINUTE,SECOND? We are a much bigger danger to ourselfes then any animal;)
