I use CopperSafe in my tanks (except the Puffer tank) & it seems to work. Have you ever used it? Friend or foe?

I've heard mixed things about copper treatments. From my understanding it'll treat just about anything, and is really more of a last resort. I know it can also be harmful to many species of fish, inverts, and all your good bacteria.

That being said if I were to use it, it'd definitely be in a quarantine tank.

i wouldn't use it. copper is too abrasive to living things. its easy to poison many fish with it and IMHO does more harm then good in most instances. if you have plants, loaches, inverts and others you are asking for trouble

I have plants & Loaches. I've had zero issues & the bottle clearly says not to use it on inverts. I've heard all the mixed reviews, as well. Thats why I posted this question. I originally used it to treat a Velvet infection in my Loach tank & it worked very well for that, so I kept using it as directed for prevention of future infections.

As far as Ick is concerned, it also seems to be pretty effective. Last week I picked up 2 oddball clown Loaches & drove them from Dallas to Houston (4 hrs), and dumped them in my tank. Those 2 developed Ick from the ride, but not a single other Loach or Gourami has any Ick & after a week and a half in an untreated tank they would normally all be covered in it. Even the 2 that have it only have a few spots & aren't even acting sick. Carbon is still in the filter & I have added no salt or heat.

I prefer safer treatments than a treatment that will leach out for a long time. I keep inverts so copper treatments will always be the bane of my existence.

I used it recently on a thinbar dat tank that had a mature filter because of all the stories I heard about flukes. I have had no issues. I didnt do the full recommended dose though. seems like a really safe product sofar

Never used it because of the negative feedback. But I have a bottle of Cupramine on hand :)

Thanks tcarswell. I would love to hear from someone who actually HAD a bad experience, too. So far, just hearing generic "I dont use it because I heard bad things".
