ok so my girlfriend has a 10 gallon tank she decided to go SALTWATER with it (even though she has no clue about ANY fishkeeping maintenance). well her efforts are good, but what shes doing is completely wrong!
I told her she doesn't have to change the water so often as every few months but she doesn't listen to me. thats fine however, she always does 100% water changes! i told her shes killing her fish and she says "omg u act like you know everything, the directions are on the salt package so im gonna listen to that and not you." so i try to explain to her how it can send her fish through bioshock but she says "no i put them in pure unused clean saltwater and they never die". shes had fish for a few months and everytime her tank clouds she freaks out and does another 100% water change.
she also has fish from different parts of the ocean, 3 critters from the tidepools and 1 from the coral reef... and i can't explain to her that she needs to consider salinity level differences but nope, she continues on to say "the instructions on the salt box says yadda yadda yadda and thats how much im gonna put in".
so now its a battle between me, and a generalized instructional salt box... so every 2 weeks or so, or whenever it happends her water clouds up from imbalances and again, she freaks and empties her tank and fills it up with more seasalt and water...
what can i do? i don't want her fish to all die this year... (not that she'd know they're sapposed to live longer than that...)
