I just noticed there quite a few worm like creatures on my crayfish's claws-they are attached and swaying side to side. The crayfish is wild caught, but I didn't notice these parasite at all until now. Any clue what these are and how I can get rid of them? Thanks a lot.

shoot, just make sure none of them get on your hands and then u rub your eyes or eat some thing without washin, they get in your body and ur not gonna like what happens next.

just put some gloves on and net the crayfish and rub them off with your fingers and then rinse the cray in a bucket of water treated with some prime and put him back in the tank they should have all been on that cray.

Did that with similar worm type of critters on a wild caught cray, except used bare hands, and he was fine never had them again, I always thought they were a leeche of some type.

nah, leeches are generally larger, less numberable and have visible segments... although, i'm no invert expert so what do i know :nilly:

It's probably a type of annelid. Several of these appear as "white worms" commonly found on crayfish. They can be removed with PraziPro or salt baths. You'll need to treat your tank as well, so that they don't return to the treated crayfish.

I can't remember the name of them (starts with an 'n') but they're common in wild-caught crays and aren't a problem. They're actually beneficial to the crays because they clean them off. I used PraziPro on my wild caught P.clarkii trying to get rid of them. But they didn't go away until his 1st moult. After that they were gone. If you notice he moults, take the shell out (normally we want to leave it in) just in case the parasites are on it and to get them out. They won't hurt you and they won't hurt the crays. Dboy was teasing you.

^ this. Some species are beneficial to the crayfish. And some species are usually only seen near or during molting, when they hop from old shell to new shell. There's quite a few different ones that you could have.

Really, I think it's more of an aesthetic thing on our part. Creepy, icky worms on our crayfish...(I freak when I find them on my wild caughts, I salt bathe mine to get rid of them... ick, ick, ick). I mean, some are truly parasites, but you'd need to post up photos and hope someone here (or on one of the other sites) is good enough at IDing the variety of potential possibilities.

Branchiobdellids are the common "crayfish worms"; they are almost ubiquitous in wild crays. Sometimes you can see them poke out from the joints or around the eye bases.

Yeah, I hear they aren't harmful, but like black_sun said, is unasthetic* to the human eye.

I'm planning on giving it a salt bath. Does anybody know how to get the right salinity level to treat the crayfish? Thanks again.

I will post pictures some time today.
