I'm feeling tired from medicating and running water changes. I need to vent a little cuz the hobby feels like a chore. I have five tanks running with the weekly water change schedule it is definitely no fun. It takes me 4 hours to do waterchanges in 5 tanks. 150, 125, 75, 20, 12. Should it take this long to do a water change? Do I have too many tanks and should I attempt to make things simple by downsizing?:nilly:

Sell everything, add more money, and get a BIG one :)
What's the point of getting a big one when all the fish I have cannot be kept in one tank. I like what I have but spending 4hrs a week doing waterchange does frustrate me.

You're complaining and I have 9 tanks and two ponds with more tanks and a pond still on their way.;) I spend more than four hours a week by the way.

I know how you feel.. I have 8 tanks atm up and running.. and need to up-size... with that being said I have a plan.. lol alot of my fish are "grow-outs" and I intend to break down the smaller tanks as I get larger ones. Takes me about 4 hours a week to do regular WC's filters ect... But thats also my "me" time on sundays. Or thats how I look at it. I also try and do random "5min" jobs dureing the week when I get the opportunity to cut down on my weekly "overhauls" It does help.

btw.. I also don't have a python.. I use 5 gallon buckets and a trusty old syphon... lol. It can be overwhelming.. and not always something I look forward too. But I also look at my fish.. and It's worth it. Particularly when my "more frindly" guys/gals are wanting my attentions when I walk into the room.

If it becomes a chore downsize or you will burn out on the hobby. I spend much more time on my tanks im running 7 currently and I enjoy them all and doing their maintenance is not particularly fun I make it as easy as possible (python , mag floats , not overfeeding)

Thank you everyone for your inputs. It does help to know I am not alone out there. I don't have a python but I do have 40ft of 1/2 inch hose that I use to do waterchange with. To refill I run the water straight off the garden hose then top it off with two gallon of hot water.

On top of my water change schedule I spend 1 hour a day chopping up shrimps and tilapia to feed these guys. That's 7 hours a week and add the hours of waterchange that is a total of 11 hours a week. I'll be converting them to pellets even if they wills starve to death. Work is too hectic right now and I cannot go on prepping food daily.

i have an idea... give me your 150 gal and ill give you my 55 gal :ROFL:
its easier to change and the best part is.... it holds water!!! lol just messing. i would love to have the setup you have. i only have 2 tanks and it takes me about 1 hour to do everything necessary, even all the medications and chemicals that i need for my tanks.

That's why I rather keep a 1-ton fish than a ton of fish :D You're still single, and already "vent!" Imagine what happen when you need to take care of two kids :grinno:

I don't want kids right now or a marriage. My nephews are about the same age as your kids. When they're over here during my water change it would take 90mins longer than usual with the extra help. These fish are almost like my kids cuz I have to care for them unconditionally. I have thought about keeping 1 ton fish but I love community setups too much to switch to one ton fish. I think I need to ask Li to block me from viewing MFK Classfieds. I buy too many fish on impulse. My goal for 2009 was to break down the 12g and 20g but it has been running since 2008.:grinno:
