Here.
Hello MFKers,

I thought I would share the great news with my beloved fellow MFKers first! I just made the plunge and purchased a +90G upgrade to my current tank. This new setup is costing me an arm and a leg, but hopefully this will be the last tank I ever get. The 32"W should be plenty for him to move around in.

Few Questions:
Does a larger tank mean less frequent water changes? Or is it still weekly 50%? I figure with more water and the same biomass, less frequent water changes be done. At 240G a 50% change is 120G!!

The entire setup will be completed next week - I should have it setup by next Saturday. I will keep updating this thread with news and pictures. I'm going to see if I can get some pictures of it in production.

I hope all of you guys are as excited as I am....

Wish me luck! ;)

Theoretically....yes, but 90 gal isn't that much of a difference in the long run.

Hey you should pick up my 80 gallon sump filter I'm selling here:

If you're planning on big fish, this sump, or something like it, packed with good media will keep your tank sparkling clean.

I use different media in each section: mechanical (big felt filter bag), biological (ceramic rings and eheim substrat pro) and chemical (nitrazorb, phosphate beads) and it works great.

32" - 18" = 14" increase in width! He should be one happy camper....

If your doing a weekly water change you shouldn't really have to do more than 25-35%.

50 is a bit excessive unless your overstocked IMO

Same thought, but a lot of ppl here recommend massive water changes to keep the water pristine. Any other ideas here?

The only way to know for sure is with regular water tests to see how the nitrates build up. You might not need to initially, but your fish will grow and produce more waste, and with a bigger tank you'll be tempted to add more fish so in the end you'll probably be doing 50% water changes anyway.

Sounds good... time to take out my API testing equipment... dust it off... my current tank has been stable for a long time now...

IME the API test kits suck for nitrates. Everytime I test, it always comes out to be 0 but if I take a dip strip from work to test it my nitrates are at like 30.

yes 32" would be ok, but the killer is a 6' length on the tank...for silvers/blacks 8' for life is recomended...since you are doing a custom job i think you should have done it right for you fish, also do to the fact you state that this is your last tank...just my opinon...
