My husband rocked my birthday yesterday. We went and saw John Williams conduct the LA Philharmonic Orchestra. For those who don't know, think music from Star Wars, E.T., Memoirs of a Geisha, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, Indian Jones, Harry Potter, etc. etc. etc....... The list goes on forever. This guy is literally a musical genius.
I had no idea where what we were doing for my birthday. My friend told me to wear a black satin cocktail dress for a 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon event (not a typical outfit for said time). I was happy when I realized we were going to see the LA Philharmonic, thrilled when I found out who was conducting, and totally shocked when we sat down dead center in the second row!!!
In the first part, John Williams chose his favorite music from old Hollywood films. After intermission, he conducted his music from Memoirs of a Geisha, featuring the cellist Johannes Moser who was AMAZING! This was by far my favorite part. They closed with E.T., and then for his encore he conducted the theme from Star Wars. People were so enthralled that you could very literally have heard a pin drop in that place. I even refused to move my fingers off of the wax coated program knowing that even that would have been heard. I've seen a lot of live performances, but this was very much an experience of a lifetime.
Eric's gonna be be able to cash in all those brownie point for a long time to come.
