I built a 750g tank to hold my koi for over the winter months and also for quarantine in the summer months.

(If I had to do it over again, I would use 2x6's just for the base as I had bowing with 2x4's)

After filling it 3/4's of the way, I didn't like the bow, as I took a sharpie and marked the floor when the tank was empty. I drilled the floor and inserted 2) 1/2 rods

behind the tank I dropped a few scraps of 4x4s, up against the foundation.

Filtration 1.5cft of lava rock

AV50 air pump creates a wall of bubbles behind the BD, the floor remains squeaky clean

I wasn't satisfied with the performance of the lava rock, not enough filtration for the load..... So I built a sand and gravel filter.
----------

Every few days, just give the lower valve a quick open to flush any garbage out.

Cut up a grate to keep the rocks off the bottom

This here is the air wand- cleaner

Drilled on the bottom of the wand are 1/8 holes to let air pass through

Filled it with a few inches of 3/4 inch stones and then pea gravel and the top layer is sand. This should get cleaned weekly..will see. I run 2 of these for the pond outside, it does a ton of bio and great for polishing the water.
Chocolate milk anyone?

How about some outdoor pics?

That dirty water is the stuff that makes trees and shrubs happy....
