Air breathing fish

Here are some pics of my bichirs, showing how they go to the surface and get air. They are air breathing and with lungs. They'll drown if they are unable to do so.

very cool pics. you must have a lot of patience waiting for them to go up for air to get those pics.
 
dang didnt know they did that the only fish ive had that somewhat breathed air was a koi we were moving it from pond to pond it was 12in or so but on the drive it somehow jumped out he stayed out of the water for a long time cause when i picked him up he was stiff and dry like no slime and no breathing but i threw him in the water and worked with it for about 15 min and it could swim on its own it was some kind of miracle

Took me 2 hours to get all those shots! I got more but they are no good.
 
I really like the big Bichirs! Just the other day was talking about how cool the air breathing fish are and how they are usually the ones that will survive in a sudden power outage.
