Hiya guys,
2nd post with the 1st being in the "intro yourself" bit

I have a 55 Litre tank with a Chinese hill stream loach in there, not that big about 2 maybe 3 inches long.
Along with the 2 common loaches, 2 orandas and a few white clouds.,

Now the prob i have is the hillstream is to wimpy to eat the food from the bottom of the tank cos he is really jumpy, he does graze on the sides of the tank every night but im not happy with the amount of food he is getting. I do have algae on the tank, but its quite hard and not the fluffy stuff that plecs and fish of this kind like.
I also have a bit of wood in there that has some decent growth on there, but still the hillstream hasnt found it yet, he just hide behind it.

Anyway i can increase the amount of algae in my tank for this little gy?

Cheers

There are only 2 things that grow foilage of any kind and that is

Light and nutrients.

So leave the lights on for a few weeks straight and you will see a large increase in algae growth. Once you get the disired amount in there then go back to the normal light schedule.

If you want faster results then get your self a general plant fertilizer and use it as if you were growing live plants. The excessive nutrients will feed the algae and increase the growth.

just hope you dont end up with green water. so use the ferts gingerily at first.

I would recommend making him a gel food with an algae base (spirulina powder, crushed algae wafers, etc mixed with gelatin). You can paint this onto small rocks to add to the tank.

Does the loach have good body condition or does it look thin?

Make an algae tank. Get a moderately powerful lightbulb and a small tank (fishbowls work great) and put it on the sunniest windowsill in the house. Harvest it and mix it in with algae wafers and spirula.

Cheers for the info guys and gals :D
