As a saltwater enthusiast I've always used declorinator with WC. Now that i'm also into FW for a while now w/o any declorinator and there's no effect on my fish that I'm aware of. Maybe because my fish list consist of hardy/big fish such as Giant gourami, arowana, devil chiclid, pacu. I usualy let my the new water sit for 24-48 hrs before using it.

bigger fish are hardier. i was thinking of trying it but i decided against it. just because it doesnt seem to affect the fish doesnt mean it isn't. i mean big fish will probably swim in water that pretty high in ammonia too.
im gonna wait until i see some autopsies and life spans on the non-dechlorinating crowd.

letting it sit probably doesnt do much since i think i heard all places now use chloramines. they hardly evaporate at all

but on the plus side since chloramines dont evap water companies dont have to jack up there chlorine levels very high to account for possible evap

i know someone that hasn't used any chems for 10 years, and all his fish seem to do fine and live to their full potential.. i was considering doing the same thing

I always just poured water straight out of the tap into my turtle tank... I declorinate now but he was fine for a few years.

For the inexpensive cost of a dechlorinator/chloramine remover, why risk the health of your fish? Too often we experience a fish loss for "no reason". There is always a reason, whether we can see it or not. As a responsible fishkeeper it is your responsibility to do everything you can to properly care/provide for your fish.

I get city water and I've looked into it and they only use chlorine. I guess I could age the water and add it without problems but I just don't like the idea. So I use Prime every water change.

i could feed you lead flakes and you would look fine for quite a while and it would taste good

heck i could even feed you mercury for a long time in small doses and you would be fine

That is until your brain breakes down and you die or in the case of mercury go mad hatter. (lol beaver skin hats pwnd producers)

Very simple but true statement.
