We're fairly new to saltwater tanks. We've had a salt tank set up for about 5 months with a Sailfin molly and a GSP. We've recently moved to a place with such a better selection of everything, so we took advantage of it and got 10lbs (give or take a lil)of liverock. This is our tank after a week. We need more live rock but that will come with time. We got 10 hermit crabs (5 blue, and 5 red legged hermits) and 2 turbo snails. We got some hijackers too; 2 featherdusters, black bristle starfish, clam, crab, Manjano anemone, we've seen some other stuff but not good enough to ID it or even get a picture. Heres our pictures..

And now for our pest! These things are awesome! We understand where we could run into trouble with these, so my boyfriend is setting me up our 1.5gal and we're going to put the anemones in there so we can see what they'll do. After all they were free. We got curious tonight and was wondering what these manjano's would do. So we cut a peice of worm up and fed a peice to it, this is what happened.

Done.

So let me know what you think, We'll keep updateing this thread as things grow and as we get more liverock.

once you decide then you can move forward an your set up you have a great start with live rock . but what i would suggets to get is an green ermarld crab first. because he will get your live working, the hermit crabs are just scavangers and really just work on that.

UPDATE: The anemones are gone and one survived to make it to the 1.5gal. We understand what your saying about the fish, we just moved to a different state which has sooo much more for saltwater. Back home those are the only 2 fish you could get locally for saltwater. Eventually we do understand they both might have to go. But for now there okay. BTW the puffer bit me today! It actually kinda hurt! I love both the fish though and they act like family. The puffer has never nipped the sailfin mollies fin.

Crabs are cool!

tank looks good, and i cant wait to see the pics of the 1.5gal with anemone(s). please post some!

oh, and... the gsp will eat the crab, and molly, and snails....

We do understand that he could eat the crab, first he'd have to find him, we haven't even been able too in a while, but who's to say he wasn't a midnight snack either. As for the snails, they're alot bigger than what he can even think of eating, as well as the hermit crabs. We did have 5 very small hermit crabs (Blue Legged) in there and we did see him pick one up and try, we had to scare him away from it, but thats why they are now in the 1.5gal. The GSP hasn't nipped at the molly at all, they're like family, but who's to know what would happen when the GSP goes from 1in-4in. Thats why we are having second thoughts about our fish, but were just trying to start out, so for now there ok.

UPDATE: The 29gal. is suffering from an outbreak of green hair algae:WHOA:
This makes me really sad but we're researching ways of gitting rid of it, any ideas or methods that are proven to work?

And 1.5gal. thread will get started tonight. thanks for the feedback.

are that puffer ok in full salt water? arent they supose to be in fresh and then brackish?

They can live and do good in fully salt. They are "Brackish" fish that can be acclimated up. He did start out in fresh, then Brackish, now he's been in fully salt for about 4 months. We've only had one problem with him, he had some sort of eye infect/disease, but my Boyfriend researched it and treated it and it was gone within a week. Other than that he's done awesome.
