I just got a small freddy thats around 1.5 inches. I was wondering what can I expect when it comes to the rate of growth? Is it kinda like a jag? He does seem to be eating alot so I figured it may be quicker but just wondering.

Good questions. I got a male from Rapps a few months back around 6" and he has only grown maybe an inch in 2-3 months. I would also like to know what the typical max size is for freddies.

They have a decent growth rate-pretty much comparing it to a Jag would be about right. It also of course depends on food, water param.,size tank etc.Always try and get a better name food and a variety of it.You can pretty much 'power feed' anything but don't over do it.

Ive never seen one bigger than 10-12" I dont think. IME they didnt grow as fast as jags. Every Jag Ive had grew like a damn Oscar...fast.

My freddis were hiders too. Do you guys have that issue?

Also, if you want growth, do 50% water changes weekly. Ive found that that helps more than anything with growth & health.

thats good to know. i feed nls right now and he eats just fine. mine doesn't seem to be much of a hider either. hes always front and center and comes up as soon as I get near the tank. my jag was a real hider though. Ive always done 50% water changes so that shouldn't be a problem either. I cant wait for it to get up to size. thanks for the info.

I got one from Rapps with an oscar and 2 EBJD he grew about 3in the first month doubling the size of the O and JD's maybe its because he ate all the dithers i cycled the tank with (some he was slamming against the side of the tank to get them to fit in his mouth). I had to rehome him after he killed one of the Blues.

well they get at least 12" because that's how big my male is. I bought him a year or so ago at 11" so I couldn't tell you how fast they grow.

Mine can be a hider at times, he's defiantly a more docile fish. He's pretty passive too, I've been able to keep bite size fish with him and he doesn't seem to care much at all, he's too much of a porker to chase anything. I think the only time he would eat them is if they swam in his mouth

Sweet. Do you have some pics of him?

One thing Ive experienced with every parachromis except motas...they think anything under 3 inches is a feeder. Thats cool you dont have to worry about that.
