Thought I'd throw this out there for comments.
Remodelling my 240 to reduce maintenance and improve reliability.
Self Imposed restraints :
Must be silent
No exposed plumbing in tank or room
Redundant systems
Re use existing equipment as much as possible
After much research I have decided to go with an RUGF in the tank and an all pressure system for external filtration. I am constructing the drain to accommodate a sump if I ever decide to go that direction, but, for this round it is not an option.
Cuerrent equipment in stock for use/reuse:
2-Little giant MD 5-SC Pumps
2- 250 watt inline heaters
2 Red Sea Ocean Clear 325 canisters
The RUGF (see drawing) borrows from a Chompers design while meeting my need for no exposed plumbing.
The drain(see drawing) is designed to gravity feed 2700 GPh as per the sticky on pipe size and flow rates (thanks to the author). The pumps rate 950 GPH @ 3' times two for 1900 GPH giving me a 8x turnover. I also have a 24/7 water changer (my unchlorinated well water needs no conditioning for my Mbuna). I have a backup generator with an Automatic transfer switch as the power goes out at least once a week.
I included a photo of the tank "as is" to illustrate the space constraints (the curtains are normally closed behind the tank and the windows never receive direct sunlight). I'm also changing the tank background to black.
So the question is what else can I do to make it bulletproof ?
Any ideas for improvement or enhancement ?
Think outside the box, I want to be able to leave for a week and not worry about it(if that's possible).
