So, not to long ago I got a 240 gallon (96"x24"x25") off of craigslist for a good deal. After researching the tank more i found out it is a glass cages tank. However when I got it the middle euro brace was broken off. The guy i got it from offered to repair it before I came to pick it up for a additional 50 bucks. I choose to try to take on the repair my self because 1.) I knew I could do it for cheaper 2.) I would like to trust my own repair instead of a random dude. 3.) It would be somthing for me to get some experience to evenually build my own Monster! Anyway, Moving on along, I got the new pieces of glass at the local glass shop for about 17 bucks. Then after doing hours of research on MFK I set off to lowes. I purchesed 3 tubes (little did I know that it would only take one tube) of ge 1 silicone. After researching the silicones I really wanted to get some dow corning but I didnt want to have to order it online and wait for it to come in, so I just went with the ge 1. However I did find some silcone at lowes that said "Good and safe for aquarium use". It was made by dap and it only came in the small tubes and cost as much as the 10 oz ge tubes. Plus after reading the back of it, It said " Limitations: 30 gallon Aquariums and smaller" ?!?!?!?!!? hahah are u serious! 30 gallons I though!!? That is rediculous. So I just played it safe and got the stuff I know tones of people on here have used. Moving on along, I got the only broken chunks of glass off and scraped ALL the silicone off that my eyes could see and my hands could feel. Then I wiped it all down really good with acetone for a clean surface for the silicon to stick to. After that a measured off where the support was going to be and siliconed it all in place and clamped it in place. I'm going to let it cure for 4 weeks to be extra sure it is at its strongest. Then its all go for a test fill. Lets hope this then freaking holds water after all this and the guy didn't sell be a leaking tank.
