Ok, here is the deal... i have a acrylic tank that is pretty stocked. want to do a drip system. I want something simple.

1. new house, do not want to have to do too much MODIFYING
2. Tank has no sump so would have to drill tank for water discharge.
3. Have a hot water tank in the attic, and also have a bathroom near the tank so maybe i can branch off to feed the tank from here???
4. No basement, no crawl space, concrete floor.
5. Well water, no need to prefilter, just straight out of tap!

Topping off tank: I just really do not know where to bring the water from. Tee off from a bathroom faucet? Tee off from hot water tank? Do you really need a pressure regulator? How to controll the amount of water..
I would like to do 25% a day min.

draining tank: drill side of tank and install bulkhead?

can somebody give me some more basics???

thanks man, i really like this idea http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303090

questions i have is, i hate to drill my tank, and install a bulkhead, is there a overflow box that can be used to maintain the correct level? Would drilling the tank and installing a bulkhead be better? How small of bulkheads do they make?

the next question where do you get drip emmiters? I need to figure out how to slow the drip from a 1/4" line, to the tank.

Would i be crazy to run this line through the attic from the washing machine to the tank??

check out dmopar's design. he's running a drip system on tanks with no sump using an overflow.

as for drip emitters, i got mine here. really good emitters and you can remove the cap for cleaning which is very important. otherwise youll be replacing these as soon as they clog. i havent had any problems with these clogging.

check out a sattle valve for a fridge. it self taps into copper line and u can control the flow right at the valve

and if it were me, i would probably drill the tank and install a small bulkhead. its super easy on an acrylic tank. that way you can be sure the overflow will not fail and overflow your tank, you never know. the drain on my sump is a 3/4" bulkhead.

these guys have 1/2" bulkheads, perfect size IMO http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/2985/Bulkhead-Fittings-Economy/bulkhead/0

great! thanks, that is what i am thinking.

Hmm, got me thinking... my washer and fridge is at the opposite side of the house as my tank. i have a hot water heater in the attic, i wonder if i can branch off on the inlet side of the hot water tank line and use a saddle valve there? Would this cause me any problems? You still need drip emmitters to contol how much water right?

yeah drip emitters would be the easiest and cheapest way to regulate the amount of water. these that i showed you need less than 40psi though, so you may need to get a pressure regulator.

the first time i got one of the cheap $6 regulators at lowes but it leaked horribly. i then bought a $12 30psi regulator and its been working no problems :)
