So I bought 10 little indos around the middle of Feb (1" to 1.5"). The store I bought them from told me that they were feeding them frozen bloodworms so I brought a pack home with me.
FBW only
First night in the tank I dumped some FBW. Only 1 or 2 were interested. They were still getting used to their new home. After about 2 days of feeding FBW, only around 7 of the 10 were eating.
FBW + Shrimp
I then decided to mix in some cut up shrimp together with the FBW. I let the FBW thaw in a little saucer with some water and mix the bits of shrimp in with it. After 10 to 15 mins, I dump the FBW and shrimp mix into the tank. Initially, only around 2 or 3 would eat the shrimp. I did this for around 3 days.
Shrimp only
I noticed that they would go for the shrimp rather than the FBW so i fed them shrimp only. Also the protein content of shrimp is higher than FBW. I fed them just shrimp for 2 to 3 days. Now all were eating shrimp except for 1. This one indo refused to eat completely. Since I got him, I've never seen him eat and he was razor thin. He would look all excited but would just look at the food til it reached the floor. Eventually, after a week of not eating anything, I placed him in a 5g tank and tried to feed him guppy fry but I think he was too weak to go chasing them and died the next day. So yeah I think it's possible for fish to starve themselves to death.
Shrimp + Tetrabits
Now to move them onto pellets, I mixed in some Tetrabits into the diced shrimp with a 50/50 ratio. I also added a little water into the mix so the pellets will absorb the shrimp juice. The size of the Tetrabits is perfect for the little dats. Again I let the New food (Tetrabits) soak for 10 to 15 mins. Because these little guys are always hungry, they would accidentally eat the pellets when I dump the mix into the tank.
Pellets only
After about 1 to 1.5 weeks of the Shrimp & Tetrabits mix, I stopped giving them shrimp completely and would just pour some Tetrabits into the tank. 6 out of the 9 indos would eat it. Did this for 3 days. The 3 indos that wouldn't eat starved for 3 days. I also tried Hikari Micro Wafers but they seem to prefer the Tetrabits. Only around 3 to 4 would eat the Micro Wafers.
Massivore
After 3 days of just Tetrabits and Micro Wafers, I bought a bag of Massivore Delite. I soaked a pellet in water and chopped it into little bits. Now the 3 that wouldn't touch the Tetrabits and Micro Wafers ate the Massivore like there was no tomorrow. Massivore must taste good! 9 of 9 now eat Massivore and they seem to love it as much as shrimp. Tey eat til their bellies look like they're about to explode.
Now I'm going to try converting my larger dats to eat Massivore. I don't think it'll be as easy as this.
