****Maybe this will turn itself into a sticky*****
I, like many others on this site live all things aquaria. We have spent countless days, months & for some, years learning and maintaining our fish tanks. MFK is a great resource in which you can pose a question and someone who has experienced and/or researched such problem will chime in with sound advice. Almost immediately. There has got to be 50years+ of aquarium keepers knowledge in here. simply Priceless...
I remember my very 1st fishtank. I was 5years old and it was a 55G that belonged to my dad and his 13" Oscar. From then I've always had fishtanks. When I started I would go to a pet store and pick whatever you wanted that was for sale. Without any knowledge of what species is compatible with another, overstocking, tank requirements & overfeeding. We've all been there at one point. My outlook on aquarim keeping changed when I started to ask questions. It opened up a whole aisle worth of fish books and information which has kept my attention up to today.
What I am leading up to is ....... simply
When you don't know, ask questions?.
but more importantly............
Take heed to the advice given!!!
People on MFK will not steer you wrong.
If you don't like the answer given, don't take it personal.
Use it as your learning opportunity. Sometimes, ones personality gets in the way of there success. If you are the type of person whom goes left when everyone's telling you to go right. You will not be very succesful in life, let alone this enjoyable hobby. You will kill fish waste money and probrably be discouraged. IMO It is not responsible nor morally correct to kill fish because you can't be humbled enough to admit you're wrong and take heed to someones suggestions.

Yeah, I guess sticky is too much. Rant it is...
After all It won't stop people from being ignorant, even if it were stickied or tattooed.
People will be humans.

No sticky, but you are right.

Many on MFK/any forum will steer you wrong though. Because they think they know and don't, they 'heard it somewhere' or 'everyone says so'. This is the 'net. Too many lemmings and not enough who question, research and come to their own conclusions.

Instead of saying "When you dont know, ask a question" you should be telling people "When you dont know, use the search function and read the stickies". There are a ridiculous number of simple, extremely repetitive new threads daily that could be answered so easily if the people making new topics put in any effort. I dont know if they are just trying to raise their post counts (which dont mean a thing IMO) or if they need a 10th opinion.

I agree with this also, which is why the stickies are so valuable.

For Twisted (2,000+ w/your posts) & Brad (w/your 191 posts)...
Since ,"Many on MFK/any forum will steer you wrong"
Which side are you on? The informative side or the guessing side.
B4 you guys get postal. I agree to a point as well. However for the most part, the MFK elite will not tell you wrong stuff. Why would we congregate around BS posts/stories. Which of course should be looked into further on your own time. I was just trying to get some of our ignorant members to not be so ignorant. NO Beef..Turkeys:grinno:
did i make 20 posts yet...<----SUPASTAR in the making

1st of all post count isn't any kind of indicator. I've read some ridiculous & rude advice from people with over a 4000 post count. And I've also read excellent advice from long time fishkeepers who just found this place with 50 posts. I'm all for people doing their own research from all over the web. If they want opinions-then by all means-ask on a fish forum. But you better already know enough about it to weed out the ridiculous answers you're going to get.
