Hello,
Project - Automatic Water Exchange System.
I made this system for my 2 Black Arowana, 2 Stingrays and Pleco L27a. I had a problem with hight levels of NO3 - Nitrate. Even when I changed the water twice a week, my NO3 was never less than 40 and for my fish it was too high. The second reason was the time that I was spending on the water changes - 2 or 3 times per week.
The whole project took me more than 2 weeks; most because I was waiting for some items that I couldn't buy in local store like: Drip Emiters ($0.56 + shipping), Solenoid Value ($63 + shipping), Water Level Sensor ($22 +
Shipping) and the Vertical Float Switch ($55 + shipping).
I was using regular 1/2" pipe form Home Depot and some other items like valve, connectors, glue etc. Total cost for those supplies was about ($50-60). Two GE filters ($19 each), one regular filter media ($9) and one carbon filter media ($12), and Pressure Regulator ($29).
In Walmart I bought the red plastic container ($5).
I already had my old water pump MagDrive, so I didn't have to buy it.
Total Costs: 270 usd + shipping for some items.
Now, my NO3 level is 5-10ppm. 5,5 days for changing all water in my 180 gal. tank. Fish are happy, and I have more time for my family
I'm still testing what type of drip emiters will be perfect for my tank - how much water (gal/hour) I need to change every hour to get ideal water parameter in my tank (not too much and not too little).
And one more important thing - I very rarely disturb my fish (cleaning, ect), so they have much less stress.

Thank you
Mike
