Oscar Tummy
Not great photos. But it is neat to see where the colors went on my Oscar, so here is a sequence. If I get some mixed up, go by the dates on the pictures. 2003 should be 2009. Note especially the area around the eyespot on his tail. Totally black, then popping red. The shot where he is vertical is from when my brother in-law accidentally scared him. The O hit his head on the back of the tank and spent the better part of a week floating vertically. I was so relieved when he recovered.
I almost forgot to point out the most unique thing about my Oscar! If you look toward the back of his dorsal fin, you'll see a stripe of coloration which matches the bottom half of him. I suspect a small group of cells wandered too high when he was in the egg developing.

Thats so cool. Just got an tiger oscar last week. he just over an inch. But i been taking pics every couple days just so i can record the progress of color change and size :)

Nice looking O!

Yes! Do it! Even once per month will give a pretty good show. I skipped quite a few months in getting shots of my guy. :(

I see your avatar and name every time I navigate to MFK because I bookmarked the "Oscars Full Size" thread. :D

I really like this oscar. Great color, love the pepperish gill plates, digging the color of the tail. Great work raising this guy.
How big is the little guy?

Well, it's hard to measure him, but since he seems to be the same length as the ruler I'm saying 12" for now. I swear he was bigger a couple of months ago. Maybe he's shrinking? Or maybe I overestimated. :D

I just noticed his square, underbitten lower lip has really rounded out.

Got from a pet store who ordered him from Jeff Rapps. He was the 'smartest' one in a group of six. The employees had thrown either a gymnogeophagus or a red severum (i forget) in there and he was ripping the Oscars up. All except my guy, who was strategically keeping the other oscars between himself and the attacking cichlid. It was like watching chess. Every move the attacker made, the Oscar countered evasively. I was so impressed, I picked him. He was also the least torn up.

They had him labeled as 'Wild Peru Oscar', so he's probably either F0 or F1.

Awesome, I kind of thought it looked a little more special than a standard Persmart Oscar. Very cool your LFS orders from Jeff Rapps. You picked a good one for sure.

I hope to get a wild strain O some day, either Peru or Orinoco would do.
