Getting ready to start on my new tank that has a built in over flow.My question is can I hard pipe my input to the hole in the middle of the bottom of the over flow.Like up and over the side of the tank and out that hole with a vent at the top to stop suction during power outages and use the other 3 for out put. Also want to use 2 pump 600gph.Do you think it will work.I am very open to your thoughts. You all really help me with my last set up.Also plan on capping off all the other hole in the bottom. The tank is a 170gl

Thanks Bud

I would run 2 of the drains from the overflow box to the sump. Use the 4 holes in the bottom in a straight line as the return so the return would come up through your gravel. 1 pump is a better idea than 2 and I would shoot for a Mag-18 or larger.
Back flow valves should be plumbed into the returns for a power outage.

One of the other holes in the bottom could be plumbed for a water change valve.

I am not 100% sure so if I am wrong someone please correct me. but in your overflow box you can run a dorso pipe up and they are supposed to be quite. and yes you can hard plumb the return pipes.

I think I will make the dorso pipe for the out side 2 and run the input line down the middle to the bottom middle hole in the overflow. After all I am breeding Umbies in there and may need a divider so that will help the male fertilize the eggs if need be from his side of the tank closest to the overflow
