Hey guys. I've got a new Rotkeil Severum last week, can you please tell me if it's a male or female?

I'd like to bring another one to create a couple to breed them.
How can I know if it's a male or female in the store? Stuff usually don't know either.

Here's a picture and video in the quarantine tank. Hope you can help me :)

Thanks!

Welcome to MFK. Beautiful severum you have there.Venting is the only sure way to tell male/female, however the male will have a more extended dorsal/anal fin where as the female will be more rounded. This guy does look like a male but venting is the only sure way to tell

hey, thanks! :)
How can you determine its gender? by what? and how I can pick a female in the store :confused:

Just saw you reply, thanks! So there's no way to be sure in the store if I get a male or female? Maybe some tips to increase the chances? :)

and I said, that they don't know themself to spot males or females....

by the way, what is "Venting"?

:confused::confused::confused:

H. rotkeil is easy to sex and there's no need to vent. Males have extensive facial markings whereas females don't.

OP: yous is a handsome male :thumbsup:

One more thing please, He's a wild cought severum. By now, he agrees to eat frozen bloodworms ONLY. How can I 'teach' him to eat the pellet food?
